Counselling
My individualised counselling sessions aim at supporting change so women of all ages can lead more empowered and creative lives. I offer a safe, non-judgemental therapeutic environment for you to clarify troubling or challenging areas in your life, plan and pursue goals. The psychodynamic counselling process will allow you time to attend to your needs and explore at your own pace. My approach is integrative and person-centred, meaning I see the therapeutic relationship as a collaboration in which I companion and support you to develop opportunities for effecting change whilst drawing on a range of therapeutic techniques to suit your needs.
My approach is trauma and Polyvagal Theory-informed with a focus on the body-mind connection. have a deep understanding of the complex and far-reaching impacts of trauma and the silencing that often accompanies it, and recognise that a multitude of external factors can influence and severely impact women’s lives. I trust, however, that all women, when supported and encouraged, have the capacity to make changes to their mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing, even if they might currently be feeling overwhelmed or vulnerable.
Sessions will support you to reacquaint yourself with and build on inherent strengths and skills. This will assist in finding new ways to identify, work through, and integrate experiences and challenges to bring about change and re-gain life balance. The counselling process may be facilitated in a number of ways depending on your personal needs. I have expertise in therapeutic writing and body-mindfulness techniques, and, where appropriate, these and other creative forms of exploration and expression may be introduced. I value and place emphasis on self-compassion, as well as self-care practices, including the pursuit of activities and interests that will nourish and enrich your life.
Somatic Therapy
My individual somatic therapy sessions for women in all life stages offer a safe, non-judgemental therapeutic space of support and inquiry. Sessions are body-focused and foreground the understanding that it is through our bodies we take in, process, and store information as we navigate the past, experience the present, and negotiate the future. I have a deep understanding of, and expertise in, the complex embodied impacts of trauma and recognise how these, and a host of other external factors can influence and severely impact the direction and quality of our lives.
Your needs will determine the shape of sessions. This might be a desire to explore a past, recent, or current concern or experience. It might be a wish to reconnect with or develop a more easeful relationship with your body. Or it might be an interest in engaging with alternative forms of communication and expression. Whatever the focus, sessions are individualised and can include hands-on bodywork, guided imagery, experiential anatomy, and Authentic Movement. Where appropriate, reflective writing and other forms of creative expression may be introduced. This work can be deeply nourishing and help bring about positive change. Somatically exploring thoughts, feelings, and life experiences will enable you to gain increased bodily understanding and a greater sense of embodiment and integration. This can lead to improved physical and psychological comfort and the capacity to participate in your life with greater ease, renewed vitality, and creativity.
My approach is influenced by the principles of *Body-Mind Centering® and other somatic practices, and informed by my ongoing professional development in somatics, contemproary counselling therapies, and feminist philosophies.
